With outstanding execution, St. Mary's nailed their final start to leeward of the fleet. After a short sail on starboard, they tacked and crossed the fleet, and the rest was history. No matter which direction Yale's skipper Joe Morris went, there was no catching up to St. Mary's, who went on to cross the finish line in convincing fashion with a twenty boatlength lead.
What a great regatta its been here at St. Francis Yacht Club. PRO Mike Kalin and his team did an excellent job of running the national championship, and the world class venue left nobody disappointed in the conditions. Thank you to St. Francis YC staff John Craig and Melanie Roberts, who ran the event with professionalism and thoroughness.
As for me, I had fun blogging the news along the way, and I hope if you are still with me this far, that you enjoyed reading. Check www.sailgroove.com for more reports, and look out for ESPNU's hour-long program with Gary Jobson. Cheers!
Nice blogging Eddie! Wish I could have been up there. - Jo
